Happy Earth Day from all of us at HOPE.
We recently visited Mooney’s Bay Beach, where we’ll be hosting HOPE Volleyball SummerFest in just a few short months. We’ve been hosting our charity volleyball tournament for 43 years, and we hope we can continue for many years to come. But to do that, we’ll need to give the Earth some love.
It’s easy to feel like our course is set. With the amount of emissions that come from giant corporations, a lot of it is not in our control as individuals. True progress will also require policy changes and widespread actions. But there is no point in climate change where our progress doesn’t matter. Every bit of CO2 that we prevent from going into the atmosphere matters. The actions we take towards climate resilience today will make a huge difference for future generations.
Don’t know where to get started? Here are some actions you can take to care for mother nature.
Learn more about the issues facing the climate and our communities!
Getting informed is an act of resistance. It’s easy for the existential dread to creep in when we’re exposed to discouraging climate change news non-stop, but focusing on local issues can make things feel less overwhelming. Perhaps we’re a bit biased, but there’s no better feeling than supporting local causes. Staying active in our communities is essential for keeping us all hopeful and connected — together!
Support your local farmers market!
We’re coming into peak farmers market season with the outdoor markets opening up soon, so it’s the perfect time to make it your whole personality. Sunshine, seasonal produce, and maybe a little sweet treat from local artisans — COUNT US IN. Plus, buying local food is a great way to reduce your environmental impact while supporting local farmers in the process. It’s a win-win.
Get out into nature!
Hugging a tree (or befriending one) is a great way to celebrate Earth Day. Here at HOPE, we love touching grass. There’s something about spending time in nature that makes it feel like everything is going to be okay. Developing a strong connection with nature is an excellent reminder of what we’re protecting, plus it’s good for your mental health. Forest bathing anyone?
Together, let's take care of the earth with the perfect blend of individual and collective action, so we can enjoy all the marvels of the Earth for decades to come.
