The Ottawa Humane Society (OHS) is one of our featured charities for HOPE Volleyball SummerFest 2025!
At a glance:
- The OHS supports thousands of animals EVERY YEAR.
- In 2024, they cared for 6,685 animals, with 2,962 adoptions and 2,400 surgeries.
- They reunited 600 lost pets with their families.
- And provided 18,840 kgs of pet food through their Emergency Pet Food Bank.
The amount of homeless pets makes us way too sad but luckily the Ottawa Humane Society (OHS) is here to save the day! They are Ottawa’s home for homeless pets, providing a safe shelter for thousands of animals every year with nowhere else to go. The OHS doesn’t rest until these animals find their furever home and they never put down adoptable pets! They cared for 6,685 of our furry little friends in 2024.
PLUS they are a safe haven for lost pets who are brought to their doors from all over Ottawa. Last year alone they reunited over 600 lost pets with their families. Like Indie, a stray cat who came to the OHS and they were able to reunite her with her family even though she went missing from her home in Montreal eight years ago. We love a happy ending.
Affordable Medical Care!
Broke? No worries because the Ottawa Humane Society is breaking down barriers for pets and their owners. Let’s face it — pet ownership can be pretty expensive but OHS is here to help with their Emergency Pet Food Bank and Subsidized Spay/Neuter clinic for cats. They distributed 18,840 kgs of pet food into the community in 2024.
They also provide life-saving surgeries to homeless pets with a dedicated surgery suite. They performed 2400 surgeries last year. Before adoption, every animal receives a spay/neuter surgery, plus cats and dogs get a microchip, behaviour and medical assessment and vaccines.
The Community Rallies Behind Them!
Volunteers keep the show running at the Ottawa Humane Society. Over 800 volunteers support them with everything from animal care, to administrative tasks and fundraising. They even have a program where teens (14-18) can earn their volunteer hours by fostering a rabbit in their home. Now that’s a fun way to get your volunteer hours in, just like volunteering at SummerFest!
Support them in HOPE Volleyball SummerFest 2025 so they can continue transforming the lives of pets in Ottawa.
