Can you believe the Children’s Aid Society was actually founded over a hundred years ago?
From the legacy of such a longstanding society, the Children’s Aid Foundation of Ottawa sprouted up in 1988 with the aim of supporting children in foster care as well as youth transitioning out of care into independent living.
The Youth Transition Program is in fact the very program a portion of the proceeds from Lone Star HOPE Volleyball SummerFest 2026 will be funding!
As youth aged 18 to 22 leave the foster system, they need help to find and afford housing, plus guidance on how to adjust to independent living. Mental health support is critical in this time of transition and therefore the program also contributes to counselling for former youth in care.
The Children’s Aid Foundation of Ottawa is making such a positive impact on our city and we love that they’ve shared some positive statistics with us, such as the fact that the number of children entering foster care has decreased by 15% over the last five years, or that they’ve been able to provide over 200 kids with a summer camp experience EVERY YEAR. Those are some numbers we can feel good about!
