What is HOPE?
“HOPE is a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit events management organization that raises funds for community-based charities, and has fun doing so” – HOPE’s mission statement
HOPE currently operates two volleyball-centred events: Big Rig Brewery presents HOPE Volleyball SummerFest in July and HOPE Volleyball WinterFest which takes place indoors in Feb/March.
We have recently added a new initiative “Adopt A Park”, where our HOPE members & volunteers cleaned Britannia Park on June 9th! Britannia Park is where the first “HOPE” took place 36 years ago & we are pleased to be continuing our history in giving back!
What’s different this year at HOPE?
Big Rig Brewery will be debuting their new Cider here on July 14th!! We are thrilled to assist in the launching of this product & having a few thousand people come & enjoy the ‘fruits’ of their labour!

The 36th annual Big Rig Brewery presents HOPE Volleyball SummerFest takes place Saturday July 14th, 2018 at Mooney’s Bay Beach, Ottawa, Ontario.
When and where is HOPE WinterFest?
HOPE Volleyball WinterFest takes place Saturday, March 10th, 2018 at Le Dome @ Louis Riel (1659 Bearbrook Road, Ottawa, ON)
What does HOPE do?
Big Rig Brewery presents HOPE Volleyball SummerFest is committed to raising money for local charities and has donated more than 3.5 million dollars to over 110 charities since its inception 36 years ago.
Who benefits from Big Rig Brewery presents HOPE Volleyball SummerFest?
The 2018 Recipient Charities are: Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation, Make-A-Wish Eastern Ontario, Special Olympics Ontario, The Ottawa Mission, The Dementia Society and Children’s Aid Foundation of Ottawa!
How can I apply to become a HOPE Recipient Charity?
Watch the HOPE website for the application posting in August. Recipient Charities are voted by the HOPE Membership after qualified charities are screened in for the vote. Last year’s application is up for review and reference at www.hopehelps.com.
Who benefits from HOPE WinterFest?
Our HOPE Foundation, which gives out funding by way of scholarships throughout the year to programs such as the Event Management at Algonquin College, and that is the focus of the WinterFest funding. This allows HOPE to give out to worthy programs year round.
How many people play at Big Rig Brewery presents HOPE Volleyball SummerFest?
SummerFest attracts more than 10,000 players who participate on 1,032 teams in 4 divisions that play on 86 courts using 162 volleyballs – all in one day.
How many people play at HOPE WinterFest?
64 teams of 8 players will participate in 2 divisions (Recreational & Competitive) on indoor volleyball courts.
How many corporate teams play at Big Rig Brewery presents HOPE Volleyball SummerFest?
Approximately 200 Corporate Teams will participate in the Corporate Division.
How can I volunteer at Big Rig Brewery presents HOPE Volleyball SummerFest?
Over 1,100 Volunteers will be on site to make this event happen. To volunteer, register online at www.hopehelps.com or you can donate to us throughout the year, which helps us support our worthy charity recipients.
What about the Big Rig Brewery presents HOPE Volleyball SummerFest concert?
Close to 15,000 spectators will come out for sun, fun, and non-stop live Canadian entertainment in the HOPE Mainstage from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00p.m.
What if I want to bring my kids?
Children aged 9 and under are admitted to the festival free of charge when accompanied by a ticket-holding adult. Children aged 10 and above will need tickets for entrance in the licensed areas.
When does Big Rig Brewery presents HOPE Volleyball SummerFest start?
Team arrivals begin at 7:00 a.m. Competitive Division Play begins at 8:00 a.m. Recreational Division Play begins at 9:00 a.m.
When do Big Rig Brewery presents HOPE Volleyball SummerFest’s bars start serving alcohol?
The equivalent of 52,200 cans will be served. Bar Service begins at 11:00 a.m.
What are the restricted items that I cannot bring onsite?
No Alcohol is allowed entry onsite, all bottles, coolers & bags will be checked and if alcohol is detected, it will be confiscated by security. Due to City of Ottawa Bylaws – mammals/reptiles or avians are NOT allowed onsite. No knives, scissors or cutting utensils will be allowed onsite.
What else is there to do at Big Rig Brewery presents HOPE Volleyball SummerFest?
Vendor Village provides lots to see and do for spectators and participants and chances to win great prizes.
What’s the best way to get to Big Rig Brewery presents HOPE Volleyball SummerFest?
HOPE encourages participants to bicycle to the event, provides supervised parking in the onsite bike compound, as well as HOPE Shuttle bus service to the beach from Carleton University. Remember, if you leave your car overnight at the Carleton parking lots, be sure to check the signage regarding time restrictions. HOPE is not responsible for any parking tickets incurred for parking violations in and around the site.
Can I borrow nets from HOPE?
Unfortunately, no. We do not lend out any of our equipment due to liability and they are our ‘main ingredient’ to our event. For a list of local companies that will provide pricing for you, please contact – email@example.com

How can I be a food vendor/exhibitor at Big Rig Brewery presents HOPE Volleyball SummerFest?
We currently have vendors and exhibitors only at HOPE SummerFest not at HOPE WinterFest. For more information regarding opportunities, please review last year’s application for what is involved on the Vendor tab on our website.
